Franz Schubert Grand Duo in A Major D. 574

The much-acclaimed American violinist Tai Murray and celebrated British pianist Martin Roscoe treat us to a thrilling mix of classical 19th century repertoire, combined with works from two of our most outstanding contemporary composers.

Between exquisite masterpieces by Robert and Clara Schumann, we jump forward in time to the complex rhythms of Road Movies by the American minimalist John Adams, and Estonian Arvo Pärt’s haunting and quasi-religious Passacaglia.

The concert finishes with Schubert’s Grand Duo in A major, written for violin and piano in 1817, when the composer was just 20 years old. The work is an unbroken stream of graceful and beautifully crafted melody, reflecting his genius for song.
