Sounds Green

Cambridge University Botanic Garden

On Wednesday evenings in July, Cambridge University Botanic Garden rings to the sound of live music when we present Sounds Green – the best in open-air music. Bring a rug and a picnic. Food, ice creams and drinks on sale. Open to all ages. Music from 6.30pm. Garden closes at 8.30pm.

PLEASE NOTE: All paying visitors should buy garden entrance tickets in advance via the Botanic Garden website, available for purchase from June. Tickets may also be available on the gate, but this cannot be guaranteed. Friends of the Botanic Garden and CU students are admitted free. Retiring collection towards artists’ costs.

Prime Brass

Wednesday 1 July

Well known for its performances at the lighter end of the musical spectrum and popular family concerts, local ensemble Prime Brass  makes a welcome return to Sounds Green. Something for young and old alike – expect toe-tapping music that is sure to have you up and dancing!

Arun Ghosh Quintet

Wednesday 8 July

The Arun Ghosh Quintet brings its trademark Indo- Jazz to Sounds Green. Conceived in Calcutta, bred in Bolton, matured in Manchester and living in London, Arun Ghosh is a leading light on the UK jazz scene, captivating audiences with his passionate and dynamic performance style, and a healthy dose of rock ‘n’ roll spirit.

The Basin Street Brawlers

Wednesday 15 July

Described as ‘London’s top hot jazz ensemble’ by visitlondon.com, the Basin Street Brawlers bring New Orleans style swing and jazz to the Botanic Garden. The band have featured live on national radio (BBC Radio 3) and were featured as CD of the Week in The Sunday Times.

Paprika

Wednesday 22 July

The UK’s leading Balkan music band, known for their electrifying and energizing performances that immediately captivate a listener and lure them into the world of Balkan music. Coming from unique educational and musical backgrounds ranging from traditional folk, through jazz and rock, to classical music, the band fuses together all these styles with Balkan, Gypsy, and Eastern European music to create their own distinctive sound of whirlwind performance.

Cores Do Samba

Wednesday 29 July

Led by Brazilian singer Caru Lins, the group explores the infectious, rhythmic and uplifting music of Brazil, especially the ’MPB’ style (Música Popular Brasileira), plus samba, bossa nova and funk, and songs by Gilberto Gil, Chico Buarque, João Donato, Tom Jobim, Djavan, Joyce, and Ivan Lins.
