Young Composers Workshop

Murray Edwards College, Cambridge

Saturday 11 July 2026, from 10 am to 5pm (aprox)

Applications to take part in the workshop are now closed. However we encourage young composers to attend on the day and hear the pieces workshopped and performed. You can learn a great deal from hearing other people’s compositions.

This annual workshop for young composers aged 21 and under provides the opportunity to have a composition workshopped and performed by professional musicians, with individual feedback provided by both the players and composer Ewan Campbell.

The workshop will form part of the 2026 Cambridge Summer Music Festival and will be open to the public. There will be a morning and afternoon session, ending with a celebratory performance of all the pieces.

For those who have already submitted applications, the deadline to submit compositions is Saturday 20 June.

Compositions should be for Flute, Cello and Piano to be performed and workshopped by members of the Marsyas Trio. They should either be created using composing software and saved as PDF files, or hand-written as clearly as possible on manuscript paper. The performance length should not exceed 3 minutes. Guidance on writing for these instruments can be provided (see contact details below).

Composers can live anywhere, but must undertake to attend the workshop in Cambridge on Saturday 11 July. Participation is free but donations towards the cost of running the workshop are encouraged.
