SUMMARY:Quatuor Confluence
DESCRIPTION:Charlotte Saluste-Bridoux (violin)\nLorraine Campet (violin)\nPierre-Antoine Codron (viola)\nTom Almerge-Zerillo (cello)\n1:00pm\, £10\, Free for 25 and Under\nPlease note that this concert has been rescheduled to Friday 23rd July. \n  \nSchubert Quartettsatz 8’\nHugo Wolf Serenade 8’\nRavel String Quartet in F Major 30′ \nConcert duration 50 minutes \n  \nQuatuor Confluence is made up of four eclectic young musicians who joined forces in September 2019 to share their passion for string quartet repertoire\, and everything else in life ranging from ecology\, pure intonation\, folk music and a particular sense of humour. \nPierre-Antoine Codron and Tom Almerge-Zerillo met in Lyon at the CNSM where they shared six years of quartet playing and developed a passion for it. Once graduated\, the inseparable friends set out to build their dream quartet. \nTom thought of his first chamber music partner back in Montpellier. The memory of Rachmaninov’s trio élégiaque with the 10 year old prompted him to call. \nCharlotte\, after 11 years in the UK where she graduated from the Menuhin School and the Royal College of Music moved to Paris to join the quartet. \nThe last piece of the puzzle then seemed obvious : a shining star across all domains\, Lorraine graduated from the Paris CNSM in both Double-bass and Violin. Combined with Charlotte’s electricity\, Pierre-Antoine’s poetry and Tom’s colourful palette\, Lorraine’s extensive knowledge of the orchestral repertoire and her musical poise offers a fresh outlook\, one that has now become a true pillar of the Confluence’s interpretations.

SUMMARY:Maria Włoszczowska & Bengt Forsberg
DESCRIPTION:Maria Włoszczowska (violin)\nBengt Forsberg (piano)\n1:00pm\, £10\, Free for 25 and Under thanks to support from Cavatina Chamber Music Trust\n  \nWalton Sonata for Violin and Piano\nFauré Berceuse\nRavel Pièce en forme de Habanera\nLili Boulanger Nocturne et Cortège\nDebussy La plus que lente arr. Roques\nSaint-Saens Berceuse \nConcert duration 50 minutes \n\nPolish violinist Maria Włoszczowska performs as a soloist\, chamber musician and guest concertmaster worldwide. She is recognised for her versatile musicianship\, having won the First Prize and Audience Prize at the XXI Leipzig International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition in 2018\, as well as numerous prizes at the XV International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition. \nThe 2020/21 season sees projects leading the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra\, violin concertos by Sibelius and Bruch\, solo Bach recitals across the UK as well as performances at international chamber music festivals including Musikdorf Ernen in Switzerland\, IMS Prussia Cove\, Festival Resonances in Belgium\, Lewes Chamber Music Festival\, Budleigh Festival\, The Enghien International Musical Encounters\, New Paths Festival in Yorkshire. \nMaria gave her debut recital at the Wigmore Hall with pianist Alasdair Beatson in 2016. She has appeared as soloist with international ensembles since\, including the Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava\, Concerto Budapest and several of Poland’s symphonic and chamber orchestras. She is a recipient of the Royal Philharmonic Society Emily Anderson Prize. \nThe intelligence and warmth with which the pianist Bengt Forsberg approaches music is clear\, no matter what he does. Bengt makes the undertones of music truly vibrate. As a soloist and chamber musician\, he eagerly tracks down wonderful music that the less spry hands of music history have overlooked.\nBengt was born in Edsleskog in 1952. He first sought to train as an organist\, but later changed to piano. After continuing his piano studies in Copenhagen and London\, he embarked upon a career as a concert pianist\, with his repertoire frequently including such relatively unknown and challenging composers as Charles Alkan and Kaikhosru Sorabji. For many years Bengt has been Anne Sofie von Otter’s loyal musical companion in an extensive series of notable recordings for Deutsche Grammophon\, for example. The acclaimed album Neglected works for piano presents a wide range of works by composers who have undeservedly remained unheard\, including Amy Beach\, Vítĕzslava Kaprálová\, Ruth Sofia Almén\, and Grażyna Bacewicz.

SUMMARY:Children's Carnival
DESCRIPTION:Faust Chamber Orchestra (orchestra)\nMark Austin (conductor)\nTasmin Little (narrator)\n2:30pm Tickets £5\n  \nSaint-Saens Carnival of the Animals \nConcert duration 45 minutes \n\nCambridge Summer Music is delighted to present this family friendly performance of Saint-Säens’ Carnival of the Animals. \nThe Faust Chamber Orchestra conducted by Mark Austin will be joined by celebrated violinist Tasmin Little who will be narrating each movement. \nEach of the music’s 14 movements represents a different animal\, including a lion\, donkey\, and elephant\, as well as fossils\, an aquarium\, an aviary and – Saint-Saëns’ little joke – pianists\, possibly the most dangerous animal of them all… \nThe music is beautiful\, funny\, and clever all at once. The Swan\, one of the most iconic movements\, is scored for two pianos and a cello solo\, with the calming cello tune representing the bird’s effortless gliding\, and the rolling piano chords paint a musical picture of the swan’s hidden feet\, paddling furiously under the water. \nWe welcome all ages to this concert although we advise that it is best suited for ages 4 to 11
